The Bloomington-Normal YMCA is thrilled to welcome Breena Campbell to our operational leadership team in the role of Director of Wellness.

Campbell is a well-qualified fit for the position, coming to McLean County and the Bloomington-Normal community from Virginia. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in physical education concentrating primarily on exercise science, alongside a minor in health and wellness. She has also received a wide range of qualifications and certifications from outside the university setting, including a sports medicine CPT certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine and an American Sports and Fitness Association certification.

Campbell’s professional experiences include time spent as an assistant wellness director, a clinical exercise specialist, and a personal trainer, giving her the work experience necessary to serve our YMCA family effectively and with compassion. Her role will be to not only help us continue to assist the greater Bloomington-Normal community as they chase their wellness goals, but to help bring wellness in all its forms to the forefront.

“I am excited to be a part of the Y family and be able to connect with the members of the community,” said Campbell. “I hope I can bring all aspects of wellness here and help people find a balance between their physical and mental health by incorporating the tenets of wellness into their daily lives.”

Having Breena on staff will enable our Wellness team to begin widening their focus, allowing the Bloomington-Normal YMCA to expand health-focused programming to cover more than just the physical health of our participants.

“We are incredibly excited to have Breena on the team,” said Brad Ruehrdanz, the Senior Director of Membership Experience at the Bloomington-Normal YMCA. “Her knowledge and dedication to health is a perfect fit for the mission of the Y, and we believe that her joining us will allow us to provide a more informed perspective on the idea of wellness within our programs that will enable us to better serve our community.”

The Bloomington-Normal YMCA was established in 1855 and is the oldest continually existing human service organization in McLean County. Serving more than 13,000 people annually, the YMCA serves our community in a welcoming, nurturing, genuine, hopeful, and determined way. As a charitable, non-profit organization, the Y seeks to establish programming in the community for youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
