BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL YMCA AND JACK & JILL OF AMERICA ANNOUNCE THIRD COLLABORATIVE WATER SAFETY EVENT

The Bloomington-Normal YMCA and the Bloomington-Normal Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. proudly announce their collaboration for the third consecutive year to host a transformative community swimming lesson event set to take place on Saturday, April 27th, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Bloomington-Normal YMCA! Check-in for this event begins at 12:30 p.m.

The annual JJ Swims Water Safety Event focuses on safety in and around water and why swim lessons are important for all youth, but specifically children of color. Children of color are 5.5 times more likely to experience a drowning event than white children. While the goal of this event is to reduce these statistics, the Bloomington-Normal chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. and the Y encourages all McLean County families to come and enjoy this free, fun, and educational event.

Water safety and skillful swimming are incredibly important lessons to prevent all of our McLean County youth from drowning accidents. “We are thrilled to continue our impactful partnership with Jack & Jill of America,” said Will Kent, Director of Aquatics for the Bloomington-Normal YMCA. “This annual community event reflects our shared dedication to promoting water safety and providing valuable swimming skills to youth. Together, we are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive in the water.”

This event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is recommended via the Bloomington-Normal YMCA website, over the phone, or in-person at the YMCA. Registration is open for this event. All children in attendance will be entered into a raffle. Ten lucky winners will receive three months of Swim School lessons for free!
