Job Title: Aquatics Coordinator                                 Pay Rate: $19.24/hr

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Director of Aquatics                                   Primary Function/Department: Aquatics

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Director of Aquatics, the Aquatics Coordinator, is responsible for but not limited to: assisting in program operation, program development and growth, participant satisfaction, member and staff retention and safety, staff supervision, onboarding, training, and coaching. As a Coordinator at the Y, you lead an environment that is inviting and serves all.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supports department to establish new program activities and expansion within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  2. Adheres to the organization’s policies and procedures.
  3. Provides shift supervision while working 80% of time as direct service.
  4. Manages department scheduling with the Director of Aquatics
  5. Assists in recruiting, hiring, training, development of team members.
  6. Conducts team member feedback.
  7. Supports campaign efforts and donor engagement in the community and among team members.
  8. Models relationship building in all interactions.
  9. Responds to all member and community inquiries and/or complaints in accordance with YMCA procedures and guidelines.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.


NECESSARY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum 1 - 2 years related experience.
  2. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification. Company provided training available.
  3. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  4. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  6. Adept computer skills in standard office programs.
  7. Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  8. Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  9. Ability to learn necessary technology used in this role

 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Certified American Red Cross Lifeguard.
  2. Possession of Spanish, language both written and spoken.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  1. Work environment includes a warm, humid setting.
  2. May be required to sit, stand, stoop, or kneel for extended periods of time.
  3. May be in water ranging from 80-90 degrees for an extended period of time.
  4. Due to the nature of this position, weekend availability may be needed to support operations effectively. 
  5. Exposure to pool and cleaning chemicals.
  6. Must be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all swimmers.
  7. Must be physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR, Oxygen and First Aid effectively.
  8. Physical mobility to properly use safety equipment to rescue a 200 pound person.
  9. Must be able to see, hear, and communicate clearly and be able to hear noises and distress signals in the aquatics environment.
  10. Able to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic to complete daily chemical logs.
  11. Swim with proficiency and endurance for possible rescues.
  12. Must be able to communicate clearly with members and staff.
