POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Development, this position is responsible for furthering the mission of the Y through leadership of youth development programming sites during the school year.  This position provides direct supervision of children and Group Leaders, maintains a safe and healthy environment, and develops/implements program activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the participant’s ages and abilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides guidance and materials to Group Leaders for planning, supervision, and implementation of the programming activities.
  2. Supervises Group Leaders at programming sites and oversees and provides guidance to volunteers. 
  3. Promotes a team concept through a positive approach to supervision, communication, and interactions.
  4. Demonstrates professional role modeling at all times, demonstrating Y Core Values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.
  5. Communicate regularly with the Youth Development team and Director about weekly/daily plans.
  6. Plan, supervise and implement the existing program in accordance with the goals and policies of the Youth Development programs and the Bloomington-Normal YMCA.
  7. Plans and facilitates age-appropriate, purposeful and engaging activities and group projects that create an atmosphere of achievement, relationship and belonging.
  8. Ensures activities follow program lesson plans and implementation plan in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants.
  9. Clean spaces and materials used by YPALS participants in accordance with cleaning policy and procedures.
  10. Serve as liaison between the YMCA and school administrators, faculty, staff or employees. .
  11. Maintains thorough and accurate documentation, in accordance with YMCA procedures, regarding attendance, behavior, and incident/accident reporting of participants.    
  12. Provide appropriate guidance or discipline to children related to safety and/or other behavioral concerns.
  13. Maintain current and sufficient inventory of program supplies and snacks and communicates with the Director of Youth Development about anticipated needs.
  14. Ensures procedures outlined in the Parent Handbook are followed and staff and participants are in compliances with all site rules and regulations.
  15. Maintain confidentiality of all children’s information and records
  16. Understands and enforces YMCA policies and best practices.
  17. Regular and reliable attendance.
  18. Responds to all emergencies as outlined in the YMCA’s Emergency Action Plan.
  19. Attends scheduled team meetings and in-service trainings.
  20. Other duties as assigned based on departmental needs.

 

NECESSARY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within 30 days of hire.
  2. DCFS Mandated Reporter Training certification required within 30 days of hire.
  3. Documented experience in the direct provision of childcare.
  4. Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently.
  5. Reliable transportation.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: :

  1. Possession of Spanish language both written and spoken.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Ability to assess behavior of children and enforce safety regulations and appropriate behavior management techniques
  2. Ability to respond to emergency situations including First Aid.
  3. Ability to assist children in an emergency and maintain constant supervision during the duration of the event.
  4. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
