POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Director of Youth Development, this position is responsible for leading a group of students in academic and enrichment activities, working with a team at school site locations and for school break day programs. This is accomplished through direct supervision of children, maintenance of a safe and healthy environment and development and implementation of program activities that are safe, fun and appropriate to the children’s ages and abilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrate professional role modeling at all times, demonstrating Y Core Values of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.
- Communicate regularly with the Youth Development team and Director about weekly/daily plans.
- Plan, supervise and implement the existing program in accordance with the goals and policies of the Youth Development programs and the Bloomington-Normal YMCA.
- Plans and facilitates age-appropriate, purposeful and engaging activities and group projects that create an atmosphere of achievement, relationship and belonging, as directed by Team Leader, Coordinator and Director of Youth Development. Activities are to follow program lesson plans and implementation plan in a developmentally appropriate manner, meeting the individual physical, social, emotional, and intellectual needs of the participants.
- Clean spaces and materials used by YPALS participants in accordance with cleaning policy and procedures.
- Serve as liaison between the YMCA and school administrators, faculty, staff or employees. .
- Assist the Team Leader with the maintenance of thorough and accurate documentation, in accordance with YMCA procedures, regarding attendance, behavior, and incident/accident reporting of participants.
- Provide appropriate guidance or discipline to children related to safety and/or other behavioral concerns.
- Maintain current and sufficient inventory of program supplies and snacks.
- Be familiar with and reinforce procedures outlined in the Parent Handbook
- Maintain confidentiality of all children’s information and records
- Understands and enforces YMCA policies and best practices.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Responds to all emergencies as outlined in the YMCA’s Emergency Action Plan.
- Attends scheduled team meetings and in-service trainings.
- Other duties as assigned based on departmental needs.
NECESSARY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications within 30 days of hire.
- DCFS Mandated Reporter Training certification required within 30 days of hire.
- Documented experience in the direct provision of childcare.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently.
- Reliable transportation.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of Spanish language both written and spoken.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to assess behavior of children and enforce safety regulations and appropriate behavior management techniques
- Ability to respond to emergency situations including First Aid.
- Ability to assist children in an emergency and maintain constant supervision during the duration of the event.
- Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting.
