LEARN TO SWIM AT THE Y

For more than 160 years, the YMCA has nurtured potential and united communities across America to create lasting, meaningful change. Everything the Y does is in service of building a better us. One of the most effective ways to accomplish this is to teach youth, teens, and adults to swim, so they can stay safe around water and learn the skills they need to make swimming a lifelong pursuit for staying healthy.

PRIVATE AND SEMI-PRIVATE LESSONS

FLoat

Private and Semi-Private swim lessons provide personalized instruction, enhance personal abilities, and improve stroke technique, endurance, and strength. Lessons are taught and tailored to the swimmer's goals whether that is to be water safe, to learn each stroke, or join the swim team.

What is the difference between Private Lessons and Semi-Private Lessons?

Private Lessons are swim lessons that are one student and one instructor. Semi-Private Lessons are swim lessons with two swimmers and one instructor. We do not provide the second swimmer for Semi-Private Lessons. You must have two swimmers registered to qualify for these lessons.

How do I schedule my lessons?

Scheduling is easy! You will fill out the Private Lesson Request Form that asks for information about the participant's ability and your availability. You will then receive an email when we pair you with an instructor. The email will contain the time slot, instructor name, and other pertinent information regarding the lessons.

What do I need for my first lesson?

For your first lesson, you will need to wear a swimsuit and bring a towel. You will also need to show the instructor your receipt of purchase -- either as a print-out or a screenshot. The instructor will provide you with all of the other necessary tools for the lesson!

How do I let my instructor know I won't be at a lesson?

Cancelling/rescheduling a session is easy! Just send an email to aquatics@bnymca.org with the swimmer's name, time slot, and date that the lesson will be cancelled. This communication must be done at least 6 hours prior to the swimmer's lesson, or the missed lesson will count as a completed lesson in your purchased package.

Do my private lessons expire?

Yes. Any unused lessons will expire 6 months after the date of purchase.

What if I want Private or Semi-Private Lessons, but I can't afford them?
