After more than 9 years of planning and community partnership, the Bloomington-Normal YMCA is excited to announce the grand opening of their new facility in partnership with Easterseals Central Illinois located at 202 St. Joseph Drive, Bloomington, IL 61701. The YMCA will close their current location at 602 S. Main Street at the close of business on Sunday, August 21, 2022. The new YMCA will open on Monday, August 22, 2022 at 5:00 a.m. for regular operations. A week long grand opening celebration will take place Monday, August 29th – Thursday, September 1st.

“We are thrilled to open a state of the art facility that is accessible and inclusive to all. It allows our community to participate in programming, discover a sense of belonging and reach their full potential in spirit, mind and body,” said B.J. Wilken, Executive Director/CEO of the Bloomington-Normal YMCA. “We will continue to serve our entire community by never turning away someone due to their background or financial situation.”

“This facility is the physical embodiment 100% Included and 100% Empowered. We are so excited to begin seeing our families in this best-in-class, inclusive facility,” said Amber Gruenloh, Community Vice President of Easterseals Central Illinois. “We are grateful for the Bloomington-Normal community's support of the Growing Together campaign that made this collaboration a reality. We believe every child deserves the best and this facility truly delivers on that."

Each day of the grand opening celebration will be themed with free activities to showcase various programs to participate in at the YMCA as well as community partnerships that support the Y in their cause to strengthen communities.

  • Monday, August 29th is Fitness Day
  • Tuesday, August 30th is Community Day
  • Wednesday, August 31st is Family Night
  • Thursday, September 1st is Mindfulness Day

YMCA Stakeholders, community leaders and the Chamber of Commerce will commemorate the celebration with a ribbon cutting ceremony that will take place on Community Day, August 30th at 10 a.m.
