ACHIEVE AGAIN
Between March 2020 and June 2021, it is estimated that students in grades K-12 will experience learning loss of five to nine months. Without intervention, the gap of learning loss widens, and kids fall further behind. As a leading nonprofit for youth development, the YMCA is partnering with local teachers this summer to provide literacy and enrichment opportunities so children can build their academic skills, develop greater confidence in their abilities and thrive again in the classroom.
CURRENT IMPACT
In 2020, the YMCA provided a safe, sanitized and secure day camp experience to 139 children across McLean County
OUR VISION FOR 2021
To assist families bridging the gaps created by Covid-19 in an additional 50 of our most vulnerable youth
- Nearly 93% of households with school aged children did some kind of distanced learning in 2020
- Stress levels are four times higher for children who have experienced quarantine
- Social isolation during the pandemic leads to lack of emotional development due to increased screen time and reduced physical activity
